Game Rules

Object of Game

Dominoes is a 2 players game played with pieces that have two square ends, where each end has a number of pips (the dots on each end). There are a total of 28 domino pieces in play.

Each player starts with 7 pieces and these pieces should be placed on the board next to another that matches the number of pips.

Pieces with the same number of pips on each square (Doubles) are placed crosswise.

The first player who reaches the number of the score set on the initial settings (20/50/100) wins.

There are 3 game modes of Dominoes on Plato:

Draw

Each player will try to place on the board a piece from their hand that matches the number of pips. If they don't have any piece that matches the ones on the board then it will draw a piece from the Boneyard until they have one that matches. If the Boneyard is empty, the turn will be skipped and the other player will play again.

If both players cannot move, a new round will start. At the end of each round, both players will reveal their pieces, the hand that sums more pips (between all pieces in their hand) will lose the round, and that number of pips will be the number of points that the winner will get.

Blocked

This mode has the same rules as "Draw" but the Boneyard will be empty from the beginning.

All Fives

This mode has some differences from the "Draw" mode:

The first double piece in the board will be the Spinner, this means that this piece allows placing pieces vertically once the horizontal sides are used.

The score will be added after each move (not at the end of the round) if the sum of all ends on the board is a multiple of five, the number of points you get is the result of this sum. If the sum is not a multiple of five you won't get points.

Top Ranked Winners

Can I play online?

Yes. Install the Plato app on iOS, Android, or macOS to play the full catalog with friends or matchmade opponents. You can also play Ocho online in your web browser — no install needed.

Can I play with friends?

Yep. Tap Create Private Game, then share the invite link or invite from your contacts. When they tap Accept, they're seated at your table.

Is it free?

Yes — free to play and ad-free. If you buy something, it's for looks (themes, profile flair), not power.

Is it fair?

Shuffles, deals, dice, and timers run on Plato servers, not your device. Everyone plays by the same rules and no one can peek at hidden information.

Is it safe?

You can block and report from profiles or chat. Public spaces use filters and human review. Some rooms use Chat Pass to deter spam, and privacy controls let you limit who sees you online.

Live vs. turn-based: what’s the difference?

Both are turn-taking; the difference is the clock. Live uses short timers for quick back-and-forth. Turn-based gives you longer — often up to 24 hours per move in games like Chess — so you can play at your pace.
