Play Minesweepers online with friends for free

About the Game

Minesweepers is Plato's multiplayer version of the classic Minesweeper game, which is normally a single-player game.

Object of the Game

Minesweepers is played with 2 to 4 players. The object of the game is to clear as many tiles as possible while trying to avoid the mines.

The game ends when all the mines have been discovered. The player with the most points at the end wins the game (see Scoring below).

Playing Together

The game is played in 30-second turns, with each turn being shared by all players.

When a player has tapped on a tile, they must wait for all other players to finish their selections.

After all players have selected their tiles (or if the 30 seconds timer is up), the turn ends and the selected tiles are revealed:

Note - It's possible for players to end up selecting the same tile:

Scoring

A regular "safe" tile is worth 6 points. If more than 1 player chose the same tile, the 6 points are shared with those players.

If a player uncovers a tile with a mine, they will be deducted 12 points.

Each time a player misses a turn, they will be deducted 3 points.

Numbers

The numbers on each tile represent the number of mines that are adjacent (left, right, up, down, and one at each corner) to those tiles.

In the below example, Tile A has the number 1 which means a mine could be in 1 of the tiles with the red spots:

In another example below, Tile B has the number 2, which means the mines could be in 2 of the tiles with the red spots:

Using Flags

If a player thinks there's a mine in a tile, they can tap and hold on that tile to plant a flag on it.

If that tile turns out to be a mine, the player will earn 10 points and will replace the mine with a flag:

If more than 1 player correctly flagged a mine, they will share the 10 points.

Can I play online?

Yes. Install the Plato app on iOS, Android, or macOS to play the full catalog with friends or matchmade opponents. You can also play Ocho online in your web browser — no install needed.

Can I play with friends?

Yep. Tap Create Private Game, then share the invite link or invite from your contacts. When they tap Accept, they're seated at your table.

Is it free?

Yes — free to play and ad-free. If you buy something, it's for looks (themes, profile flair), not power.

Is it fair?

Shuffles, deals, dice, and timers run on Plato servers, not your device. Everyone plays by the same rules and no one can peek at hidden information.

Is it safe?

You can block and report from profiles or chat. Public spaces use filters and human review. Some rooms use Chat Pass to deter spam, and privacy controls let you limit who sees you online.

Live vs. turn-based: what’s the difference?

Both are turn-taking; the difference is the clock. Live uses short timers for quick back-and-forth. Turn-based gives you longer — often up to 24 hours per move in games like Chess — so you can play at your pace.
