Object of the Game

Sea Battle is a 2-player game where players take turns trying to destroy the other player's fleet of ships on a 10x10 grid:

The game is played in 2 phases:

  1. Ship Placement Phase
  2. Attack Phase

Ship Placement Phase

At the start of each game, you must place your ships on the ocean grid:

Each player starts out with 6 ships. Below are the ships and their corresponding sizes:

To place a ship, you can tap and drag a ship to any available area.

You can rotate a ship by simply tapping on it.

You can also tap on "Random" button to randomly assign placement to each ship

Once you've finished placing your ships, tap on the green "Ready" button.

Attack Phase

When both players have tapped on their "Ready" button, the Attack Phase will start.

Both players will now see the following game board:

The larger grid in the center represents your opponent's area. The smaller grid at the bottom represents your are and your ships.

When it is your turn, tap on the square on the main grid you wish to attack. A miss is marked with a white "X." A hit will be marked with a red crosshair marker.

Every time you hit an enemy ship, you get another turn. When you miss, your turn is over.

When you've sunk your opponent's ship, that ship will appear on the main grid.

The first person to sink all five of his/her opponent's ships wins the game.

Can I play online?

Yes. Install the Plato app on iOS, Android, or macOS to play the full catalog with friends or matchmade opponents. You can also play Ocho online in your web browser — no install needed.

Can I play with friends?

Yep. Tap Create Private Game, then share the invite link or invite from your contacts. When they tap Accept, they're seated at your table.

Is it free?

Yes — free to play and ad-free. If you buy something, it's for looks (themes, profile flair), not power.

Is it fair?

Shuffles, deals, dice, and timers run on Plato servers, not your device. Everyone plays by the same rules and no one can peek at hidden information.

Is it safe?

You can block and report from profiles or chat. Public spaces use filters and human review. Some rooms use Chat Pass to deter spam, and privacy controls let you limit who sees you online.

Live vs. turn-based: what’s the difference?

Both are turn-taking; the difference is the clock. Live uses short timers for quick back-and-forth. Turn-based gives you longer — often up to 24 hours per move in games like Chess — so you can play at your pace.
